Joey did well with his first day of the 2-day MIBG scan today. We arrived at the hospital at 8:45 for a finger stick to check his blood counts. He had to drink a thyroid block in some juice at 9:00. We then had to hang around until 10:30 when the dye was injected. Following that, we had a quick trip up to the clinic for some needed platelets. Then, a little bribe at the gift shop, a stop in medical records, a trip to the pharmacy and back to the first floor for his scan from 3:00 to 5:00. Luckily, with such a schedule, he fell asleep while in the scan. This helps a lot with cooperation on being still. On the way home, he asked me, "Mom, how much life do I have?" For those of you who don't know, this stems from playing too many video games. On all of the games, there is a little bar in the corner to show how much life your character has left. Joey wants as much as Spiderman. This hit me as it was such an innocent question, with such a deep impact. If only I could navigate this like a video game and pick up a new level somewhere out of Neuroblastoma World. Well, I just have to realize that his innocence will keep us strong. He has no clue what's ahead--and that can be a good thing. Really, none of us do--we just try to figure it out as adults, right? We return to the hospital tomorrow morning for day 2 of the scans. Jeff went to Jersey today for training on the new job. Gina, Joey and I go to Cincinnati on Sunday. We have a rotating schedule of family accompanying us. It will be an adventure....Stay Tuned.
